Balboa Island is a charming island located on the beautiful Newport Bay. The island reminds me of Nantucket with charming cottages and lots of flowers spilling from window boxes and tiny front yards. It can be reached by ferry boat or bridge and has one main street. Once a year about one hundred artists line the sidewalk overlooking the bay for a juried art show. I was all set to participate this year for the ninth time and at the last minute had to cancel ( I had some routine sinus surgery and it turned out to be more than planned -I was not able to lift or bend over for two weeks which meant no art walk for me this year).
Not to worry - I was able to attend the show and took lots of photos to share with you. My art is in a delightful little gallery on the island - Heart of the Island- and I feel like I was still able to participate in the show as lots of visitors to the Art Walk also visit the Heart of the Island gallery.
Some of my art displayed in the window.
Can you guess which art is mine? The wicker chairs and flag painting -bicycles and beach chairs are my paintings. I was so excited to see some of my art displayed in the window and still felt I was part of the show.
This year most of my art was "Seaside Cottage" themed.
Spending summers with my family at my Grandparent's beach cottage at Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina and spending hours playing on the porch with my cousins seemed to have influenced me to paint porches.
The one hundred year old Balboa Pavilion is in the background of this painting. Look for the charming Pavilion in the background of my photos of the Art Walk.
OK - now put on your walking shoes and lets tour the 2010 Balboa Island Art Walk.
The "island dogs" are so used to visitors that they are very casual about the art walk.
